- July 2012/2013...... Note to owners of Zenair Floats, sizes #1700A-2500A
A notice was posted in July 2012, asking all owners of these floats to inspect their MATCO-manufactured nose wheel forks for cracks. When a another #2200A user found a failing MATCO fork on his Zenair floats in 2013, Zenair decided to no longer supply the MATCO forks for its larger floats sizes. A formal written notice was sent out to all #2200A float owners on record requesting users of the original system to switch to new Zenair-Manufactured forks. All new #1700A-2200A float kits have since been supplied with the new forks.
Here (click on links) is a list of the new Parts* necessary to complete the upgrade; and here is a Photo-guide with installation instructions. *these parts are now standard in all factory-new #1700A-2200A float kits. Float owners who received their Zenair floats kits with Matco-manufactured nose-wheel forks should contact Nick (705-526-4537) for additional information on how to proceed with a nose-wheel upgrade. |
- Sept. 10, 2013....... Improved Nose-Wheel Steering for 1450A floats.
To facilitate steering on Zenair 1450A floats, the design of the nose-wheel steering bolt (FL-82) and of its welded bushing plate (FL-83) were modified. All kits supplied from November 2013 onward included the new steering bolt design. For kits sold previously, an upgrade kit was made available (and revised in March 2016). Ask for packing list 1400A-S; more details available here.

- January 2020....... Subject: protruding rivet nails after CA-42H blind-rivets are set
In some instances, builders have reported that when they set their CA-42H rivets, the inner "nail" shears off too high, leaving a sharp point protruding from the installed rivet-head. This can happen when the rivet is deformed during the setting process, for example, when the hole in the rivet-gun tip is too large for the rivet nail. A deformed rivet can cause the nail to "partially pull out" (protrude) and can also eventually lead to leaks! It is important that the hole in the riveter-head (on the tool) properly guide and support the rivet and NOT allow the rivet to move side-to-side! Make sure your rivet-gun tips are well-adapted to the rivet size being used...
Bob Jones of Alaska suggests the following solution if the hole in your riveter-head is too large to properly support a CA-42H rivet nail/shank: "Braze shut the rivet gun tip and re-drill to #50 bit (.070")". |
Selling your Zenair Floats?
When you sell your Zenair floats (hopefully only after many years of successful float flying!), make sure to also provide the buyer with all related documentation (invoices, packing slips, drawings, manuals, etc). so that he/she will be able to properly maintain and repair the floats as necessary. After you have sold your floats, the buyer will need to register the transfer of ownership with Zenair in order to receive factory technical support. This is done by contacting Zenair or AFM Inc. for the appropriate form ([email protected]).
